This is a preview performance of Susan's PASIC performance.  This concert and the PASIC event features the xylophone in both solo and chamber music settings, including four world premiere performances:

  • The Recital Piece (A Drama for Solo Xylophonist) by William L. Cahn
  • Pattern Migration by Joseph Krygier, for xylophone and digital delay*
  • Almost Perpetual Torque by Christopher Deane, featuring the Shiraz Trio*
  • Composition by Powell and Krygier, for xylophone, flower pots, octobons and percussion quartet, featuring Sympatico*
  • A novelty ragtime arrangement of three baseball-themed tunes (Baseball Glide, Take Me Out to the Ballgame and The Umpire is a Most Unhappy Man), arranged by Powell*
  • Youngstown State University Percussion Ensemble, World Premiere

    Costs for the day:
    -Day of Percussion: $20 ($15 for PAS members and students).
    -Lunch and dinner will be available on site (from off site restaurants). Bring cash for meals and plan $5-$10 per meal.
    -Evening concert is $8 ($5 for PAS members and students).

    In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Percussive Arts Society, we will be honoring the career milestones and anniversaries of Ohio percussionists.  The Percussion Group Cincinnati celebrated their 30th anniversary last year, Bill Platt recently retired after 40 years of service to the Cincinnati Symphony, David Fishlock was appointed Principal Percussion of the CSO, and the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps turns 50 this year.  The evening concert will feature the Percussion Group Cincinnati and a combo comprised of Peter Erskine, Ricardo Flores, and Rusty Burge.  Also, Tom Kernan, a musicologist who has studied the history of the Percussion Group Cincinnati, will offer a presentation on the Group’s diverse repertoire and the members’ approach to collaborating with composers.  There will be an adjudicated rudimental snare competition and a mock audition.  To register for the mock audition or solo snare competition please contact Jerry Noble (jernoble3@yahoo.com) as soon as possible to reserve your place.
