Utah Day of Percussion Composition Contest 


Details

The 2012 Composition contest is intended to promote new and original works for percussion in the state of Utah, to encourage young composers to write for percussion and to encourage local percussionists to compose for their instrument as well. The submission will be Prize for the winning composer in each category is $100.

Who Can Enter
There are two categories for the composition contest; High School and College. The categories refer to the age of the composer, not the level of the composition.

Composition Requirements
Submissions will only be considered that are scored for percussion ensemble, between 4-15 players. Solo compositions and previously commissioned or published works will not be considered. Compositions must not be more than 12 minutes in length. Total duration should be stated on the manuscript. The difficulty of the compositions will be left to the discretion of the composer; however, high artistic goals should be coupled with realistic musical demands to allow for performance at the Jr. high, high school, or university level. Instrument requirements should also be limited to those commonly found at the high school or university level.

How to Submit a Composition
The entry fee for this composition is $15 (per entry). The composer should mail a completed entry form (download below), three complete copies of the score, and cash or check to:
