On Saturday, April 6, 2019, the annual Illinois PAS Day of Percussion will bring together our vibrant Illinois percussion community with a day full of concerts, masterclasses, performances and camaraderie at DePaul University, home of the very first-ever PAS Day of Percussion.

Events will take place in the stunning new Holtschneider Performance Center on the DePaul Lincoln Park campus. Host, Michael Kozakis has invited an incredible cast of artists to present a day of clinics and masterclasses for attendees from middle school through college to learn and even perform for these artists themselves.

This year’s PAS Day of Percussion features:

  • Paul Rennick (Percussion Director, 2018 World-Champion, Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps)
  • The DePaul University Percussion Ensemble, Michael Kozakis, Director
  • David Herbert (Principal Timpanist - CSO)
  • Cynthia Yeh (Principal Percussionist - CSO)
  • Dana Hall (DePaul Director of Jazz Studies)
  • Eric Millstein (Lyric Opera)
  • Ian Ding (New Music Detroit)
  • Mike Green (Lyric Opera)
  • Dr. Christopher Butler (SIU-Carbondale)

The day begins with the annual non-competitive “Uncontest" solo and ensemble masterclasses led by DePaul percussion faculty. Sign up to play for Mike Green (Lyric Opera) and Ian Ding (New Music Detroit), who will preside over performance clinics for Percussion Ensembles along with solo/excerpt performance clinics with Eric Millstein (Lyric Opera) and Cynthia Yeh (Chicago Symphony Orchestra). There will also be an opportunity for area jazz combos and drumset players to perform for Dana Hall, DePaul Director of Jazz Studies. During this time, there will also be clinic presentations by Eric Millstein, Cynthia Yeh, and Dave Herbert (CSO).

In the afternoon, the DePaul Percussion Ensemble will perform a concert under the direction of Michael Kozakis. Dave Herbert will present a public masterclass with three select timpanists of various age levels (apply online). Invited college students will present a solo recital and Dr. Christopher Butler (SIU-Carbondale) will present a mallet sight-reading lab. The day concludes with a snare drum clinic presented by Paul Rennick - percussion director for the 2018 DCI World-Champion, Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps.

Anyone interested in performing in any of the clinics should apply online by Feb. 15. General admission tickets for all attendees will be available online starting on March 1.
