CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL - APRIL 6, 2013




Kentucky Chapter "Day of Percussion" on Saturday, March 2, 2013.

 
The theme of the DOP is "A Celebration of Percussion Education in the Bluegrass," and will feature clinics, Masterclasses, FUNdamentals sessions, and performances by a few of the great high school and collegiate educators in our state!

Marimba Clinic by Ming-Hui Kuo (Morehead State)
Drumset Clinic by Chris Munson (EKU)
Marching Percussion Clinic by Brian Mason (Morehead State)
Multi Percussion Clinic by James Campbell (UK)
Snare Drum FUNdamentals session with Brian Morgan (Dunbar High School)
Mallet FUNdamentals clinic with Colin Hill (UK)
Timpani Fundamentals session with Mark Berry (WKU)

The Intercollegiate Percussion Ensemble will feature newly commissioned works for percussion ensemble performed by percussionists from Kentucky colleges and universities - directed by Brad Meyer (Stephen F. Austin State University)

Professor Frank Oddis, Morehead State University and Dr. Jason Koontz, Eastern Kentucky University are conducting a Brazilian Percussion and Culture Tour in the Summer of 2013 (July 26th -August 5th).  On this 11-day tour, participants will travel to Salvador de Bahia, the African capital of Brazil, to study, experience, and participate in many different genres of traditional Brazilian music.

Two tracks of study will be offered; Brazilian Percussion, and Brazilian Percussion with drum set emphasis. The instructors of the classes and workshops are all leading professionals and virtuosos on their respective instruments.

Additionally, participants will attend Brazilian music concerts, cultural shows, religious ceremonies, visit important cultural landmarks, and travel to a tropical island combining to make this tour a unique cultural experience.

*The price of the 2013 Brazilian Percussion and Cultural Tour will include the following:

International Flight from Miami, Florida.

All transfers from Airport, Hotel, Classes, and Excursions
9 nights at the Hotel Paraguaçu (includes daily breakfast)
Schooner tour to Itaparica Island (includes lunch)
Visit a Candomblé Ceremony
Full day trip to beautiful Cachoeira, the birthplace of Samba (includes lunch)
Concerts in Salvador (Olodum and the Miguel Santana Cultural Show)
All instruction - 5 class days (20 instruction hours + other clinics/masterclasses)

We truly feel this trip is a great experience for all participants, from percussion enthusiasts to professional musicians. For directors of music programs interested in bringing student groups for the tour, we can customize and plan every aspect of the trip including instruction and cultural activities, and can also suggest some methods to help with fundraising.
